686
Founded in 1992 by Michael Akira West, 686 is a California-based snowboard outerwear and apparel brand known for its commitment to technical innovation, performance, and urban-inspired design. Drawing from West's background in Southern California skate and snow culture, 686 was created to bridge the gap between functional mountain gear and progressive streetwear aesthetics.
The brand has built a reputation for high-quality technical outerwear, most notably its GLCR® series, which is designed for all-conditions performance in backcountry and resort environments. Products like the 686 GLCR GORE-TEX® Jacket and the SMARTY® 3-in-1 Cargo Pant have become staples among snowboarders seeking durability, adaptability, and weather protection. 686 was also one of the first to integrate BOA® technology into outerwear, offering precision fit adjustments in jackets and pants.
Sustainability is increasingly central to 686’s mission, with a growing number of garments made using recycled materials and bluesign®-approved fabrics. The brand's attention to fit, detail, and rider-driven functionality has earned it respect across both freeride and freestyle communities.
